EnglishGo ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you use EnglishGo:
- Account information: name, email address, and password when you register
- Profile information: profile photo, native language, English level, and learning goals
- Usage data: lessons booked, completed lessons, lesson notes, and progress data
- Payment information: processed securely through Apple In-App Purchase — we never store card details
- Communications: messages exchanged with teachers during lessons
- Device information: device type, operating system, and app version for technical support
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Connect learners with teachers
- Process lesson bookings and payments via Apple IAP
- Send lesson reminders and booking confirmations
- Improve our app and user experience
- Provide customer support
- Ensure platform safety and prevent fraud
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in these cases:
- With teachers: your name and lesson details are shared with teachers you book
- With learners: teachers' public profiles including name, bio, and ratings are visible to learners
- Service providers: Firebase (Google) for authentication, database, and storage
- Daily.co for video call functionality
- Apple for payment processing via In-App Purchase
- Legal requirements: if required by law or to protect our rights
4. Video Calls
Video lessons are conducted through Daily.co. During video calls:
- Your camera and microphone are accessed with your explicit permission
- Video calls are not recorded or stored by EnglishGo
- Daily.co's privacy policy applies to video call data
- You can disable camera or microphone at any time during a call
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Your profile and personal information is deleted within 30 days
- Lesson history may be retained for up to 90 days for legal and financial compliance
- Reviews you have written remain anonymised on teacher profiles
- You can request immediate deletion by contacting support@englishgo.app
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data at any time through your profile settings
- Correct inaccurate data by editing your profile
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your data by contacting us
- Opt out of marketing communications
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

7. Children's Privacy
EnglishGo is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at privacy@englishgo.app and we will delete it promptly.
8. Cookies and Tracking
Our mobile app does not use browser cookies. We use Firebase Analytics for anonymous usage statistics and crash reporting to improve app stability. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or cross-app tracking.
9. Security
We protect your data using end-to-end encryption for data in transit (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase security rules to restrict data access, and password hashing. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by sending a notification through the app and updating the date above.
